Congrats!
Your chair spins around so you can look into the mirror and you see that your website style is….
elegant & chic
… just like Dolores del Rio’s updo.

Just like Dolores you’re confident that your salon has talent, and expertise, and is on the cutting edge of current hair trends.
You are thorough and organized and have a spreadsheet that lets you know exactly where your salon is making the most impact. You let the data drive your decisions and know that just like the lasting impression of Dolores’ iconic updo, the numbers don’t lie.
You focus on the details and see what many others do not, which makes you the kind of leader that is good at solving problems.
Based on this detail-oriented attitude and willingness to analyze what your salon needs, you’ve got the potential to create a salon website that matches your elegant and chic vibe.
Getting that updo just so requires a lot of patience, and you might be hesitant to match your salon vibe to your exact personality (which I totally get).
———————————
So, I want you to know that your business does not have to be a direct reflection of you.
———————————
If you feel like this soft and chic aesthetic is a little too soft for your ideal guest, it’s okay to tweak your salon’s website style to attract your perfect guests and teammates.
If this graceful, understated, and detail-oriented feeling is spot on for the vibe of your salon, let’s take a peek at some images that capture your salon's essence.
Elements that evoke an elegant and chic feeling are:
✂ ovals, arches, and traditional rectangles
✂ muted and delicate colors
✂ gentle photography without harsh shadows, often with a hazy ethereal look
✂ formal patterns (stripes, florals..etc) often with a sense of order and structure
✂ delicate textures like velvet ribbon and natural handmade papers
✂ intricate and detailed illustrations, often botanicals and with a feminine feel
Notice that the photos are soft without a lot of contrast or harsh shadows.
Of course, when it comes to your salon website, you want to attract the right clients with your signature style — but you also want them to have a seamless experience when booking their appointment or checking out your services page.
Design is to your website’s function & strategy what hair color is to a haircut.
Sure the balayage may look amazing, but if the haircut is bad that fabulous color
will fall flat.
The same is true for your salon website.
Your website may look flawless, but if a guest can’t easily book an appointment or see what you offer, then they’re left with a less-than-stellar experience, which is totally in contrast to what you provide inside your salon!
Your website needs to ensure the best client experience possible by:
being easy for your customers to navigate
embodying your salon vibe
and as a bonus for YOU… it should be easy to update on your end (minus hours watching youtube videos on things like how to add your new stylist to your team page).
I know, I know… you might be ready to close this browser tab thinking… “pump the brakes, Jenn! I came here to learn about design and style, not strategy!”

I promise it won’t be as hard as you think, even if you find yourself staring at a blank laptop screen feeling…
💻 Overwhelmed by all the tech that comes with websites (you didn’t get into the salon industry to be playing on the backend of Squarespace all day!)
🎨 Anxious because you have zero background in design (they don’t teach you this stuff in hairdresser school)
🤷🏼♀️ Not really sure how to take full advantage of a website that’s unique to your salon (regardless of what’s trending right now)
And maybe even…
😳 Thinking “I honestly have no idea what I’m doing!”

The struggle to focus on a simple strategy for your website is real — especially when you're more focused on training a new stylist or making your salon a place that guests eagerly come back to.
No one prepares you to understand how to take photos for your website (why does it appear so easy?), repurpose your Instagram posts on your website, or connect your booking software to your website.
Sometimes it’s easier to just copy colors and fonts from popular pins on Pinterest hoping it fits with your salon, kinda like when you apply toner at the bowl and you say a 'hail mary' that it pulls all the yellow out... or doesn't turn too dark.
If you’re nodding along, “YES,” here are three simple strategies to boost your website's style with Dolores-level grace:
-
#1: Keep it simple
Add a straightforward and easy-to-find button for clients to easily book a service or buy products from you.
Pro Tip: Make the button color stand out! I like to use a bright or bold color from your salon’s color palette (something that doesn't blend in with the rest of your page.)
-
#2: Update those website photos
If you feel like the photos on your website, don't do you justice (+ people don't get a sense of the true vibe you have to offer), take some new photos!
Whip out your iPhone, click on portrait mode and take a LOT of pictures.
Pro Tip: Did you know that portrait mode can hide all those pesky hair dryers and curling iron cords in the background of your photos?
-
#3: Stay focused on YOUR salon
If you feel pulled by every new style trend out there or are self-diagnosed with shiny object syndrome, I encourage you to stay unique and true to your salon vision!
Close IG or Pinterest and focus on what feels right for YOUR salon and what will resonate with YOUR guests. (Hey, not everyone can carry off that perfectly styled updo, but you can 😉

I will not promise that all you need to do is re-design your website to make it look pretty and suddenly all of your salon dreams will come true.
A salon website that is well-designed with strategy will help you:
💙 Reach the *right* people so you fill your books and attract new stylists that want to work with YOU
💙 Position yourself as THE go-to salon in your community
💙 Turn your hair salon dreams into a full-blown thriving business (one that doesn’t eat up all your extra time and makes a great profit)
A website designed with strategy in mind, and one that is reflective of your salon’s unique vibe, will increase customers’ confidence in what your salon offers as well as make it super easy for them to book their first and next appointment.
Remember, design is just like the hair color and your website’s function and strategy are the haircut, or the foundation.
You need both good color and a good cut to create a truly great hairstyle!
Let’s get your website making you feel confident and unstoppable!
I know that working on your website is probably the last thing on your to-do list.
So let me share two more quick things you can do to bring your BOLD vibe into your website today.
1. Attract new stylists to your salon with ease
When you highlight why your current team loves working at your salon, other stylists will be attracted to your messaging.
Pro Tip: Share this information on your “Meet the team” or your “About” page. These in-house reviews will also be great on a dedicated page for potential stylists to apply (if you have one of those pages).
2. Change out the fonts on your website
A simple change of fonts can really make an impact on the feeling you radiate from your website. Want a few options that are as elegant as Dolores’s up do?
Try one of these font combinations:
“Just here to say, Jenn Nash Franks is BRILLIANT! Don’t walk, run and get her building your website, pronto.”
Ashley Thomas, Six /Ten Hair Studio
“Before working with Jenn, I knew we were losing out on so many connections and opportunities because our website really wasn't a resource our audience could use to connect with us.
There was so much to do, and I had no idea where to even begin or how to create a website with strategy.
Jenn took the vision I had in my head and she made it come to life and gave every piece of content a purpose.”
Samatha Huber, CEO PIP University
Hola! Jenn here. 👋
I’ve been helping salon owners weave their style into their websites since 2013.
I create compelling and well-designed Squarespace websites that don’t take a computer engineering degree to maintain — along with custom brands that highlight a business’ unique vibe.

During my spare time, you’ll likely catch me at the soccer fields with my two little ones or flying the friendly skies in my spare time.
Yep, I’m a pilot! ✈️
My favorite places to fly are in Norway and in my home state of Kentucky. There is nothing like seeing the beautiful Norway fjords or the rolling hills of KY from the air.
Being in the beauty industry, I know you’re into visuals so before I go, I’d love to invite you to say hello on Instagram and check out what’s inspiring me on Pinterest.
