Missionaries from Spout Springs Church will host a unique benefit dinner on April 29th to raise funds to combat human trafficking.

Savor a three-course meal in limited light as we “Shine a Light on the Darkness”. The fundraiser will also include speakers, an auction, and live music at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, NC. While dining with limited light will provide a memorable and intimate experience, the real goal of the dinner is to illuminate the work of The Hard Places Community in Cambodia, which strives to be a light in a dark place. 

Our Missions Team traveled to Cambodia in February 2016 to help fight human trafficking by volunteering our time at The Hard Places Community in Phnom Penh. However, this wasn’t your typical mission trip. “We wanted to change up how mission trips are traditionally done and really maximize our impact beyond our ten day trip,” said Kim Schiffman, one of the team leaders. In addition to raising funds to send the group of 12 to Cambodia, the team has also pledged to raise funds to help pay the salaries of The Hard Places Community’s Cambodian workers in 2017. While our team was able to make an impact while we were there, we think the biggest impact will be to help the staff (comprised primarily of locals) who work with the children on a day to day basis. We are committed to long term support for a group of people who do amazing things each and every day.

“Shine a Light on the Darkness” is a benefit featuring a three-course dinner, an auction of local goods and services, and live music. Dinner will be served in limited light, an experience patterned after Dine in the Dark, a restaurant in Cambodia where the meal is served in complete darkness by servers who are visually impaired. The purpose of the fundraiser will support The Hard Place Community, a non-profit seeking to shed light on the darkness occurring in the child sex trade. The group works to prevent the trafficking of children in Cambodia and to rescue those who have already been exploited by the sex traffickers. 

Our Mission Team partnered with The Hard Places Community after Team Leaders Steve & Kim Schiffman lived in Cambodia for a year as missionaries. During their time there Steve, a lawyer, prosecuted human traffickers and Kim volunteered at Hard Places. Our team from Spout Springs traveled to Cambodia in February 2016 to work at Hard Places in Phnom Penh. In addition to the work in 2016 our team has pledged to raise the same amount of money to send directly to The Hard Places Community for 2017.

While dining, guests will learn more about The Hard Places Community, their incredible staff and the experiences had by our team this past February.

All proceeds from the event will go towards sending our team in 2016 and to The Hard Places Community fundraising goal for 2017.

$5000 VIP table for 8 and your logo prominently displayed on website and in print materials where sponsors are listed. Each guest at your table will also receive a gift bag and 3 drink coupons.

$2000 reserved table for 8 and your logo displayed on website and in print materials where sponsors are listed. You will receive a gift bag for each guest and a preferred table location.

$1000 reserved table for 8 and your logo displayed on website and in print materials where sponsors are listed

$500 tickets for two and your logo displayed on website and in print materials where sponsors are listed.

$50 Individual ticket (purchase price after April 24th: $75 per ticket)

*All sponsorship and ticket sales are considered to be a charitable contribution for tax purposes, less the value of the dinner.  Invoices for sponsorship are available upon request.

  1. What is the attire for the dinner? Cocktail attire is recommended.

  2. Will the entire evening be in the dark? No. Only the dinner portion of the event will be with the lights off.

  3. Will it be completely dark during the meal portion of the evening? No. You will have the option of a small tea light at your table and the speaker will be illuminated with a spotlight.

  4. What if I need to go to the restroom during the meal? Your server can escort you from your seat to the restroom and then back.

  5. What is the meal? Salad, Chicken, roasted vegetables, potatoes, dessert. 

  6. Will you have a Gluten Free Option? Yes, we can have the chef prepare a Gluten Free option. We can also prepare a Vegetarian option if needed. Please indicate the meal request(s) when you purchase your ticket before April 15th so the chef will have time to get the best ingredients for the number of dishes to prepare. 

  7. Is the evening appropriate for children? no, however free childcare will be available by RSVP

  8. Can I just show up or do I have to have a ticket? You need to purchase a ticket
